Author affiliations and crediting

Authors of research publications must state the correct institution(s) as the author’s address in their publications; the name of the institution(s) must hereby be stated in the publication itself (crediting).

The affiliation stated in the publication decides which institution earns the publication points for your publication. When registering an academic publication in the Norwegian Research Information Repository (Nasjonalt vitenarkiv, NVA), you must register the same institution(s) listed as your affiliation(s) in the publication. Institutions not mentioned in the publication, are not to be registered in NVA.

The general rule is that you shall state Nord University as author’s address in your publication if it is the result of work carried out in a position at Nord University. In addition, you might state the name of your faculty, institute or centre to make these more visible.

Sometimes you need to credit several institutions. These are the main principles, as quoted in the reporting instructions for scholarly publications (section 2.2):

  1. An institution shall be listed as an address in a publication if it has given a necessary or significant contribution to or basis for an author's contribution to the published work.
  2. The same author should list the address of other institutions as well if these in each case also meet the requirements of paragraph 1.
  3. Employment or supervision of graduate students can be considered a basis for crediting an institution if the requirement of paragraph 1 is met.

An institution solely listed as “current institution” in the publication will not earn any publication points and therefore is not to be registered in Cristin. Keep in mind that in anthologies, your address will usually figure in the section called “Contributors”. It is important that the correct affiliation – i.e. the institution(s) that has (have) given a necessary or significant contribution to or basis for an author's contribution to the published work – is stated in the short bio of yourself written for the anthology.
