In this bachelor's programme, you learn to develop video games and other digital products for entertainment as well as learning. You learn to create products for websites, standalone as well as mobile devices. Your creations may be used for teaching, entertainment, advertising and other experiences.

The programme qualifies for jobs in developing games and digital products within fields like video games design and production, entertainment, publishing and advertising.

Admission requirements:

Higher Education Entrance Qualification (generell studiekompetanse), the requirements are specified in the GSU-list.

How applicants are ranked: If there are more applicants than available places, qualified candidates will be ranked based on their grade points and additional points from secondary school / high school education.

Studying for one term at an international university as part of the study programme is becoming more common. The main mobility window is in semester 5, but it is also possible to go on exchange in semester 3. Get in touch with the teachers or counselors at campus after starting the programme to get further information of the possibilities.
Successful completion of this bachelor's programme qualifies candidates to apply for relevant master's programmes.

Upon successful completion of this programme, the candidate will have:

Knowledge – the candidate

• has broad knowledge of key topics, theories, issues, processes, tools and methods within the games and entertainment technology field, including programming, software development, game design, computer-generated art and the use of relevant professional software within creative media

• is familiar with relevant research and development work within games and creative media, including current trends and emerging technologies such as AI

• has knowledge of design-based research methods in games and media

• knows effective strategies for continuous professional development and can critically assess new information and technologies in the field

• has insight into the field’s history, traditions, characteristics and societal role

Skills – the candidate

• can apply academic knowledge and relevant results from research and development work within the games and entertainment technology field to practical and theoretical issues and make justified choices

• can plan, execute and evaluate digital productions using relevant tools, programming languages, and methods within game development and media design

• can reflect upon his/her own professional practice—technically, artistically, and creatively—and adjust it under supervision, with attention to ethical considerations, responsible development and global contexts.

• can find, evaluate and refer to information and subject matter and present this in a manner that illuminates a problem statement to support problem-solving and creative development

• masters relevant professional tools and techniques for programming, 3D modeling, animation, sound production, and visual communication

General competence – the candidate

• has insight into relevant ethical issues and can critically and ethically reflect on their professional practice and the societal impact of digital products, including issues related to problematic gaming habits, privacy, and cultural representation

• can plan and carry out varied assignments and projects that extend over time, alone and as a participant in a team, and in accordance with ethical requirements and guidelines

• can engage with international perspectives, practices, and communities within games and entertainment technology

• can communicate key subject matter, such as theories, challenges, and solutions, effectively in writing, orally, and through other relevant forms of expression suited to diverse audiences and platforms

• can exchange opinions and experiences with others in the field, thereby contribute to the development of best practices

• understand and engage with innovative processes and lateral thinking and apply creative approaches to problem-solving and product development within games and entertainment technology

Costs for semester registration and course literature apply.

The candidate is required to use their own laptop computer capable of running the software being used in the study programme. The candidate must bring the computer every day for classes or study work. Minimum requirements for this computer can be found at the university website.

Additionally the candidate must provide data storage of their own that covers their need for storing files in all subjects.

From the academic year 2023/2024, non-EU/EEA/EFTA applicants are required to pay tuition fees at Nord university, for each academic year.

Tuition fees will be charged to international students with citizenship from outside the EU/EEA/EFTA, as of the academic year 2023/2024.

Students who have started their study programme before the autumn semester 2023 are not required to pay tuition fees.

Please note that some applicants can apply for an exemption from paying tuition fees.
