Global Issues Related to Sustainable Development (Active learning course)
The students need to have completed 2 years of a bachelor's degree in related field or to be enrolled in a master programme.
If there are more applicants than study places, qualified applications will be ranked by application date, provided that valid documentation for the admission requirement is uploaded at the time of application.
Upon completion of the course, students are expected to have achieved the following learning outcomes:
Knowledge
To acquire knowledge in the four following fields:
- Marine Environment・Climate Change、Marine observation
- Sustainable Development of Marine Industry・AI
- Marine Energy and Marine Resources
- Next generation vessels and Navigation Technology・AI
Students will develop a detailed and accurate awareness of their issues through discussions in English.
Skills
Students will be able to argue in discussion in English, to present and communicate orally.
General competence
Through this active learning course, students will be taught using various techniques which will enable them to improve their learning methods.
One of the important goals is to raise awareness of studying abroad at METIS universities by engaging in lively discussions with the Nordic students.
No tuition fees. Semester fees and cost of course literature apply.
In addition to the semester fee and syllabus literature, it is assumed that the student has a laptop computer.
Each university will be in charge of two 60-minute lectures. After the seventh lecture, the final eighth
lecture (60 minutes x 2) will be a summary lecture given by TUMSAT, and each student will give an oral
presentation and participate in a discussion.
At least one of the faculty members in charge of this class at TUMSAT will participate in the class at the
six Nordic universities to provide support for the smooth formation of communication among students.
Lectures: This class will be held in real time at the seven participating universities, it will be held from
16:00 to 18:15 (60 minutes x 2 + 15-minute break) in Japan Standard Time and from 09:00 to 11:15 in
Nordic time, considering the seven-hour time difference during summer time.
1st session: TUMSAT, 2nd to 7th sessions: 6 Nordic universities, 8th session: student presentation
session led by TUMSAT.
Students should have their camera on.
Oral exam: presentation at the last day of the course.
Pass or failure: Based on the level of understanding of the theme covered in class and the accuracy of the awareness of the problem.
