Selected Topics in Population Ecology

Many topics in population ecology can be approached by applying methods from classical ecology as well as molecular ecology. This course focuses on how methodological choices affect the level and type of insight gained from such studies by discussing different approaches to studies of topics like: population structure, ecological interactions, life-history variability, natural selection, and biodiversity.
Qualifications similar to admission to MSc in Marine Ecology and/or MSc in Aquaculture.
On successful completion of the course:
Knowledge
- Have advanced knowledge of central theory and problems in the field of population biology
- Have detailed knowledge in the development of the field of population biology
- Can use her theoretical knowledge in analysis of new areas in population biology
Skills
- Can apply her knowledge in population biology in the analysis of ecological and eviolutionary problems
- Can conduct research in population biology under supervision
- Can approach issues in population biology by locating, assessing, and citing from a broad range of sources of scientific information
General competence
- Can communicate central theories, research questions, and results from research in the field
- Can exchange scientific knowledge and views in the field of population biology, thereby contributing to development of the field
- Can contribute to the development of new ideas in the field

Lectures and seminars.
Mid-term oral evaluation with written report, electronic evaluation at the end of the semester.
