Nature types, Climate and Geology

BIO1004
The course gives an introduction to climate, geological processes, landscape forms and vegetation locally, regionally and globally. The students will learn about holistic relationships between the different topics.
The subject is reserved for the study programme Bachelor's degree in Circular Bioeconomy. Other students can get admitted if there are places available. Contact student advisor.
Students must meet current admission requirements for the associated study program.

After completing the course, the student will have achieved the following learning outcomes:

Knowledge:

  • Describe how climate affects the distribution of vegetation locally, regionally and globally
  • Explain how variations in vegetation types within forests, marshes and mountains are related to important ecosystems and habitat-type factors such as geology, soil, topography and hydrology
  • Explain internal and external processes that shape the landscape of the Earth

Skills:

  • Identify some common types of vegetation in the field
  • Explain the formation of landscape shapes, an d recognize examples of this in the field

General competence:

  • Use databases and literature to obtain relevant information about geology, climate and vegetation

Lectures, laboratory exercises and field courses/excursions
Evaluated annually by students through course surveys. These evaluations are included in the university’s quality assurance system.
