Fish and Deer Game Management

BIO1210
The course provides an introduction to the deer's biology and management of these species in Norway. It also provides an introduction to issues that are relevant to the management of rivers and lakes, with particular emphasis on ecological issues related to freshwater fish and anadrome species. The connection between practical management and legislation is particularly emphasized.
The subject is reserved for the study programme Nature Management. Other students can get admitted if there are places available. Contact student advisor.
Students must meet current admission requirements for the associated study program.

After completing the course the student will have obtained the following learning outcomes:

Knowledge:

  • have good knowledge of relevant laws and regulations
  • have basic insights into different methods of registration and sampling
  • have good knowledge of selected species of freshwater fish, anadrome species and deer wildlife

Skills:

  • be able to plan, implement, document and apply necessary parameters to create file plans and / or plans for deer and fish

General competence:

  • understand the structure of deer game and fish management
  • understand relevant legislation and regulations relating to inland fish, anadrome species and deer wildlife
  • have knowledge of ecological conditions in water and waterways
No tuition fees. Semester fees and cost of course literature apply. Deductibles may incur for some non mandatory excursions.
Compulsory
Lectures, submissions, teamwork and field trips.
Evaluated annually by students through course surveys. These evaluations are included in the university’s quality assurance system.

Compound assessment.

Mandatory participation. Approved/ Not approved. Must be passed prior to the oral exam.

Oral examination - individual, comprises 100% of the grade, grading scale A-F.

Overlap refers to a similarity between courses with the same content. Therefore, you will receive the following reduction in credits if you have taken the courses listed below:

NAT120 - Management of Game and Freshwater Fish - 10 credits

NAF1000 - Fish and Wildlife Management - 7.5 credits
