- has an overview of the different methods used for tissue preparation and examination.
- knows how to update their knowledge in histology.
Skills
The student:
- can use the light microscope to examine histological glass slides.
- can identify and describe, both orally and in writing, using proper academic terminology, the normal structure of the mammalian tissues that comprise the various organs.
- can find relevant published information and use it for the interpretation of mammalian tissue sections.
- can understand and reflect, under supervision, upon the relation between the structure of mammalian tissues and their function.

Lectures
Laboratory exercises with reports
Practical exercises: Study of tissue sections of various tissues and organs.
1. Final written exam (SK) (4 hours) with regular Norwegian grading system (A-F). Counts for 60 % of the final grade.
2. Five written assignments (OP), altogether they count for 40 % of the final grade (each 8 %). Letter grades A-F according to regular Norwegian grading system.
Evaluation using mid-term and final surveys. Students are also encouraged to participate in the national quality surveys.
Compound assessment:
- Students deliver five group reports (written assignments) throughout the semester. Each counts for 8 % of the total grade. Letter grades A-F according to regular Norwegian grading system.
- At the end of the semester there will be a written school exam (SK) (4 hours), that counts for 60 % of the grade. Letter grades A-F according to regular Norwegian grading system.
