Aquaculture Production and Environment
BIO5005
The course gives an overview of aquaculture production world wide,and the environmental effects of aquaculture production. Special emphasis is given to salmonid aquaculture, and how environmental effects are incorporated into legislation and drives technological development.
The course gives an overview of world aquaculture and its environemntal impacts. Special emphasis on salmonid aquaculture and how environmental effects are influencing legislation and technology development.
Admission to the course follows the admission requirement in the study program Master in Life Sciences.
Admission to the course requires the same qualificatons as admission to the Master of Science in Biosciences.
Knowledge and understanding, The candidate should:
- Have a broad knowledge on species used in aquaculture and how aquaculture operates worldwide
- Have extensive knowledge on the ecological effects of aquaculture practices
- Have extensive knowledge about the ecological effects of salmonid aquaculture and how regulation and technology development is being shaped to mitigate these effects
- Have a broad knowledge on the ethical challenges for sustainable development in aquaculture
Skills, The candidate should:
- Apply theoretical knowledge and relevant information from research on practical and/or theoretical topics linked to aquaculture and its environmental effects
General competence The candidate should:
- Be able to communicate the most important issues, challenges and solutions within aquaculture and its environmental effects
- Update their knowledge, exchange opinions and experiences, and promote a knowledge based opinion exchange
No costs except semester registration fee and syllabus literature.
Optional for MSc in Bosciences. Theoretical course.
Lectures and group work. The teaching is given in blocks, 2-3 days over 4 blocks.
Mid-term oral evaluation with written report, electronic evaluation at the end of the semester.
Compound evaluation, grading scale Letter grades
- Assessment Task, critical review, comprises part of the grade.
- Oral examination, comprises 20/100 of the grade, grading scale Letter grades.
- Written assignment, comprises 80/100 of the grade, grading scale Letter grades.
Overlap refers to a similarity between courses with the same content. Therefore, you will receive the following reduction in credits if you have taken the courses listed below:
