The field of study consists of the subjects music, arts and crafts, drama, Norwegian literature and pedagogy.

The field of study consists of the subjects music, arts and crafts, drama, Norwegian literature and pedagogy.

The course is based on interdisciplinary project-based work with and for children. A distinctive narrative will be a common thread running through all the course subjects. Skills and development of one’s own creativity within the individual subjects are emphasised, as well as the ability to use these for improvisation in activities by, with and for children. Process-oriented work will take place at each session, where there is a focus on play, wonder, imagination, creative enthusiasm, diversity and the ability to critically reflect on one’s own role.

Passed 60 credits after completing two years of the Bachelor in Kindergarten Teacher Education programme. Passed the supervised professional training courses during the 2nd year of study.

After successfully completing the course, students will have:

Knowledge:

• Have good knowledge about how artistic subjects contribute to children’s play, aesthetic experiences, forms of expression, learning and formation.

• Have good knowledge about project-based work with children as participants in kindergarten.

• Have knowledge about children’s culture, Sámi art and cultural traditions, cultural diversity and cultural heritage.

• Can lead educational art processes with and for children and employees.

Skills:

• Can create indoor and outdoor spaces that invite children to partake in aesthetic experiences, wonder, deeper understanding, exploration, creative enthusiasm and play.

• Have further developed their skills in the use of materials, tools and techniques in their own creative work, and can explore these together with children in planned and spontaneous situations.

• Can use their professionalism in order to improvise when meeting children.

General competence

• Can be a co-creator, participant and role model in children’s creative activities.

• Can see children as competent participants in society’s cultural arena and safeguard children’s utterances and democratic rights by promoting their aesthetic forms of expression.

The course is evaluated annually by the students through course surveys. These evaluations are part of the University’s quality assurance system.
Supervised professional training is integrated into all fields of study in the kindergarten teacher education programme. Detailed information about the content of the supervised professional training period can be found in the supervised professional training course plan. The supervised professional training period must be passed in order to proceed to the next supervised professional training period. In special cases, the head of studies may decide on deviations from this rule.

• Compulsory participation in teaching and scheduled activity 80%, represents 0/100 of the grade, grading scale Approved - Not approved.

• Coursework 1 - represents 0/100 of the grade, Grading scale A-F. (practical work with children 5th session)

• Portfolio, represents 100/100 of the grade, grading scale A-F. 6 assignments:

• Written reflection text

• Digital reflection text

• An assignment related to each of the first 4 sessions.
