Introductory Logistics

ECO1013
The course provides an introduction to firms' logistics system and how logistical problems can be analyzed and solved.

By successful completion of the course, the students is expected to posess the following:

Knowledge:

  • Have knowledge about the logistics system in a company
  • Know about basic models for inventory control and various forecasting methods
  • Have knowledge about procurement, production and distribution planning
  • Have knowledge about freight transport services and factors determining the quality of the services
  • Have knowledge about logistics systems environmental impact

Skills:

  • Be able to assess the logistical challenges in a company
  • Have basic skills in using simple forecasting methods and basic inventory control models
  • Be able to account for key principles related to efficient production and distribution planning and apply these on simple scheduling problems
  • Be able to evaluate the quality of a freight transport service
  • Be able to consider how the logistics system can become more environmentally friendly

General Competence:

  • Be able to communicate key subjects related to the company's logistics system
  • Be able to identify and analyze the logistical challenges in companies and supply chains, and make recommendations for solutions of these
Paid semester fee and syllabus literature. It is also required that students have a laptop at their disposal.
Compulsory
Lectures and seminars.
The study programme is evaluated annually by students by way of course evaluation studies. These evaluations are included in the university's quality assurance system.
