Introduction to Logistics and Transport Economics
Logistics: The efficiency and functions of the logistics system, introduction to Inventory control and forecasting. production planning and freight transport and distribution.
Transport economics: Quality of transport services, provision of passenger and freight transport services, demand for passenger and freight transport, direct and external costs of transport activities, environmental aspects of transport and logistics and goals and measures in Norwegian transport policy.
Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:
Knowledge
The student shall have:
- Knowledge of the logistics system in a company.
- Knowledge of the term quality of transport.
- Knowledge of various forecasting methods, and basic inventory models.
- Knowledge of production and distribution planning.
- Knowledge of what influences the supply of and demand for passenger and freight services.
- Knowledge of direct and external costs of transport operations.
- Knowledge of the logistics system's environmental impact.
Skills
The student should:
- Be able to explain the logistical challenges for a company.
- Have a basic understanding of the term quality of transport.
- Have basic skills in using simple forecasting methods and basic inventory control models.
- Be able to make simple calculations of net requirements in a manufacturing company.
- Be able to account for key challenges related to efficient distribution planning.
- Be able to discuss important supply and demand drivers for transport services.
- Be able to account for direct and external costs of transport operations.
- Understand how different designs of logistics systems affect the environment.
General competence
The student should:
- Have basic knowledge of the logistics system in a company and important transport economic issues.
- Be able to identify and analyze the logistical challenges in companies and make recommendations for solutions.
- Be able to describe and analyze the transport infrastructure and the transport services impact on business competitiveness, population welfare and the environmental challenges both locally and globally.
