Logistics and Transport
The logistics section of this course covers the themes `Warehouse management under security and insecurity, `Production planning' and `Distribution planning'.
The transport economy section covers the themes `Transport demand', `Direct and external costs', `Profitability analysis of investments in transport infrastructure' and `Optimal level of price and quality under different objectives'.
Lectures will emphasise seeing logistics and transportation from an integrated point of view. Both themes will constitute approximately equivalent parts of the course.

The transport economy section covers the themes: transport demand, direct and external costs of transport, economic analysis of investments in transport infrastructure and pricing of transport services.

Upon successful completion of this course, the student:
Knowledge
The student shall have:
- Advanced knowledge of key themes on firms logistic systems.
- Advanced knowledge of procurement and inventory control in firms.
- Knowledge on distribution- and route planning.
- Thorough knowledge of generalized transport costs for passenger and freight transport.
- Knowledge of welfare economic analyses in the transport industry
Skills
The student shall:
- be able to analyse a firm’s logistic system and give advices regarding changes that can improve the firms profitability.
- be able to calculate optimal purchase policy for a firm and evaluate critically the service level for different products.
- be able to evaluate critically advantages and disadvantages of intermodal transport systems.
- be able to analyse generalised transport costs for passenger- and freight transport.
- be able to conduct profitability analyses of transport and logistics initiatives and relate this to firm objectives and authority's policy instruments.
General competence
The student shall:
- be able to identify and analyse relevant logistical problems and provide argued recommendations of solutions to these.
- be able to analyse and communicate the significance of transport infrastructure and transport services for the competitiveness of businesses and industries, the social welfare and the current environmental challenges in both a local and a global perspective.
Due to the Covid-19 epedemic, a number of assessments and exams at Nord University has been changed.
Changes are made in accordance with the Temporary Regulations on Supplements to Regulation 31/01/2019 no. 63: Concerning Studies and Examinations at Nord University - Extraordinary Measures as a Result of the Coronavirus Epidemic- according to §2 of the Corona Epidemic, Assessment Methods, Sections 1-3
To accommodate this, the form of assessment will be changed from Written School examination to Take -home Examination for new exams on this course in the spring of 2020.
