Resources, Growth, and Exit

ENT5017

In this course, the students will work on subjects about how start-ups can work on and prepare for growth, intellectual property and exit. To create a start-up that is able to grow and create value require an understanding of the interplay between protection of own interests, collaboration with others and strategic choices. The course will give students a connection between theoretical concepts and practical application by implement students’ own experiences and projects in the course activities.

The course focus on how start-ups can work on intellectual property to create a sustainable competitive advantage, for instance through patents, secrecy, collaboration, open innovation and value of information. The course also focuses on how start-ups can plan for, develop and position itself for growth, and how this needs to be viewed in relation with start-ups’ intellectual property. Especially will the course focus on the balance between new opportunities and resilience in relation to growing a start-up. Moreover, the course will focus on exit and how different choices regarding intellectual property and growth influence different exit possibilities. The students will apply and discuss the course’s content on their own authentic projects.

In addition to the semester fee and syllabus literature, it is assumed that the student has a laptop.
Mandatory course for students admitted to Master in Entrepreneurship and Business Development.
  • Portfolio, grade A-F, counts for 75%
  • Oral exam, grade A-F, counts for 25%
  • Two work requirements must be approved before the portfolio can be submitted for grading.
