Directing and Producing 2
Students will build upon the directing and producing essentials received in the 1st year with more intermediate level work, using the creative process to communicate ideas through writing and dramatization.
This course will take a deeper look into theoretical and practical aspects within the role of both the director and producer. Students will gain further insights into the function and execution of communicating structure, character, action, descriptions, themes and subject.
Students learn the following disciplines:
- Formatting and applying loglines, treatments and screenplay properly.
- Mastering structure and story.
- Creating fully fleshed out characters and engaging narratives.
- Directing for actors for film and television.
- Visualization tools.
- Professional casting processes, contracts.
- Communication with actors.
- Table readings, read-throughs, blocking, rehearsals and recording.
- To become aware and then make use of the actors on-camera strengths.
- To revisit and review classic acting technique.

- Demonstrate an improved understanding of story structure and plot development
- Be able to develop a character arc across a short film
- Demonstrate the ability to communicate ideas within a production crew as well as to the audience

- Identify and interpret meaning and drama, and portray it with precise intent and narrative clarity
- Demonstrate the decision making process of being the creative leader of a production team
- Demonstrate different types of writing for film and tv
General Competence:
- Demonstrate an understanding of good structure for a short film by writing a screenplay
- Demonstrate the use of dialogue by writing convincing dialogue within the screenplay
- Gained a further understanding of artistic considerations and technical limitations when acting for the camera by working on various genres within film and tv
