GEO1132
Economic geography and population geography. The course provides insight into the challenges and consequences associated with global environmental and climate problems, resource shortages, distributional issues and demographics.

Admission is based on general university entrance qualifications or prior learning in accordance with current regulations.
It is possible to apply for admission to the course as an individual course. Reservations are made regarding available capacity in the course.
Admission is based on Higher Education Entrance Qualification or prior learning and work experience in accordance with applicable regulations.
After completing the course, the student will have achieved the following learning outcomes:
Knowledge:
- has knowledge of the concept of resources and challenges associated with resource scarcity on various geographical levels
- has basic knowledge of economic geography and population geography
- has knowledge about different perspectives on climate challenges and various environmental discourses related to land-use
- has knowledge of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and its local, national and international adaptations
- has knowledge of sustainable devlopment and the associated geographic prerequisites and consequences
Skills:
- can assess the most common types of spatial population statistics, forecasts and theories, and discuss these in relation to food production and global sustainability
- can perform geographic / spatial analysis
General competence:
- has insight into how social development from the 1960s to the present day has influenced the development of environmental focus
- understand the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and sustainable development from a geographic perspective
In addition to the semester fee and course literature, students are expected to provide their own laptop computer. Students must cover board and lodging expenses during the sessions, while bus expenses in relation to excursions are paid by Nord University.
Compulsory for students of Geography at Nord University. Elective for other students.
The teaching mainly takes place in connection with two sessions, in the form of lectures, excursions and group work. In the periods between sessions, there is online support and students will work on handing in assignments that receive individual feedback.
Evaluation using mid-term and final surveys. Students are also encouraged to participate in the central quality surveys.
Overlap refers to a similarity between courses with the same content. Therefore, you will receive the following reduction in credits if you have taken the courses listed below:
