Area Management and Conservation
GEO2008
The course covers the following main themes:
- planning history, planning theory and the law governing these topics
- sustainable development and area planning
- methods of planning for green structures
- methods for planning in `LNF' areas (agriculture, nature and reindeer husbandry areas)
- impact assessments
- planning processes, cooperation and participation
- SOSI-standard (Systematic Organisation of Spatial Information) for planning
- map and planning regulations
The subject is reserved for the study programme Bachelor of Nature Management. Other students can get admitted if there are places available. Contact student advisor.
GEO220 Geographic Information Handling or equivalent.
Upon successful completion of this course, the student:
Knowledge:
- has broad knowledge of planning theory and planning processes within land use planning at municipal level
- knows research work within sustainable development and land use planning.
- regulations, standards and specifications relating to PBL, including map and planning regulations, SOSI and Nasjonal produktspesifikasjon for arealplan og digitalt planregister.
- has knowledge of planning history and the importance of spatial planning in community planning
Skills:
- can apply knowledge of planning processes and theory to be able to produce plan proposals.
- can find and evaluate relevant data to be elucidated in an impact assessment.
- can master relevant GIS software for producing land use plans.
General competence:
- can plan and carry out area planning processes in accordance with the Planning and Building Act.
- has insight into ethical issues in a planning process
- han convey the background and content of the planning process and planning document

Compulsory
Lectures, missions and assignments, individually or in groups.
Evaluated annually by students through course surveys. These evaluations are included in the university’s quality assurance system.
Only aids awarded on the exam are allowed to be used.
