Business Analysis and Performance Management in Aquaculture

HAV2007
Production Planning and Budgeting in Aquaculture. Cost accounting. Calculation principles and methods. Different tools for decision making. Project evaluation. Analysis of financial statements.

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of the finance function's role and place in the fish farming business
  • Have basic knowledge about financial accounting
  • Know the reputable, general and specific principles and methods for cost calculation
  • Hold knowledge of productions planning and budgets
  • Knowledge of framework conditions and biological, economic, and practical limitations for the preparation of good, realistic production schedules
  • The knowledge of the production schedules and the connection between the production plans, accounting, budgets, valuation and investment analysis

Skills

  • Make profitability analysis and solve relevant issues a management decision making
  • Be able to make the accounting review of live fish stocks (biomass).
  • Be able to develop good, realistic production schedules for typical operating units in fish farming.
  • Be able to work out the results, liquidity and balance the budget for the typical operating units in fish farming.
  • Be able to make monitor actual production costs and make performance measurement at the fish generation level.

General competence

  • Practice in oral and written presentations
  • Know how to use spreadsheets to solve assignments.
  • Can apply production planning- and budgeting models used by firms the Aquacuture Industry
No tuition fees. Costs for semester registration and course literature apply.
Compulsory.

The teaching is given as lectures, and group tasks. One mandatory seminar over 2 days related to production planning- and budgeting models.

Mandatory in groups presentation of group tasks (portfolio). The entire group participates.

Teaching: Face-to-face teaching.

Lectures up to 8 hours per week (blocks).

Evaluation using mid-term and final surveys. Students are also encouraged to participate in the central quality surveys.
