Critical Assessment and Analysis: Technology Assessment, System Evaluation and Impact Analyses

In this third advanced course in e-health, candidates will gain in-depth knowledge of how digital solutions can be assessed and evaluated throughout the various phases of a system lifecycle - from idea and development to implementation and use. The course focuses on the analysis and evaluation of the interaction between technology, people, and organizations, and how this interplay affects quality, safety, and efficiency in health-related practice.

Candidates will be introduced to well-established methods and theories within the field of technology assessment. The course builds on the knowledge acquired in the two previous advanced courses in e-health.

The course is one of three advanced specialized courses in E-Health within the Master’s program in Health Sciences.

The course is also part of the study program E-Health - with Technology Assessment, Welfare Technology, and Digital Remote Monitoring, which consists of three courses totaling 30 ECTS credits.

No prior knowledge is required beyond the admission requirements for the Master’s program in Health Sciences.

Knowledge

The candidate:

  • Has in-depth knowledge of technology assessment models for evaluating the implementation and use of e-health solutions
  • Is able to formulate professional reasoning related to digital competence and digital vulnerability
  • Can analyze professional issues related to professional development and digital innovation processes in the healthcare sector

Skills

  • Can apply relevant methods and critically analyze digital solutions in independent project work, including individual, organizational, and security-related consequences
  • Can critically reflect on roles and role understanding in relation to digital solutions in the healthcare sector

General Competence

  • Can communicate knowledge and skills related to the impact of e-health solutions on individuals and organizations, including aspects of societal sustainability
  • Can contribute to innovation in e-health solutions at both micro and macro levels
In addition to the semester fee and required course literature, students are expected to have access to a laptop with audio and video capabilities, as well as a stable internet connection.
Theoretical course, mandatory for students pursuing a Master’s degree in Health Sciences with a specialization in E-Health. The course may also be taken as part of the study program "E-Health - with Technology Assessment, Welfare Technology, and Digital Remote Patient Monitoring", which consists of three courses totaling 30 ECTS credits.

The course is fully digital, with scheduled joint online sessions throughout the semester. Process-oriented didactic methods are used, including digital learning pathways with recorded lectures and guided reflections between sessions. Emphasis is placed on student-active learning methods such as group work and presentation of assignments.

The joint sessions are conducted via the university’s digital learning platform and include both shared activities and group discussions.

Each session consists of one day of joint teaching (preferably Tuesdays) and one day dedicated to group work or individual study (Thursdays), during which a lecturer is available.

The study program is evaluated annually by students through course evaluations and program-level evaluations. These evaluations are part of the university’s quality assurance system.

Composite Assessment:

All components must be passed/approved before the candidate receives a final grade in the course.

  • Assignment ("OP") - Group assignment. Assessment: A-F

The submission date for the exam assignment can be found in Studentweb (after semester registration and enrollment in teaching and examination for the course has been approved).

The exam submission must always be prepared by the candidate themselves. Generating a submission using ChatGPT or similar artificial intelligence tools and submitting it wholly or partially as your own work is considered academic misconduct.
