Ehealth: System Implementation and Service Innovation

HEL7002

The course provides knowledge about project work for the implementation of e-health and healthcare technology in the health sector. The course provides theoretical insight into organisational and change management theory. The course emphasises a specific approach that includes a project as a method of system implementation in the health sector. The course provides a basis for innovation and innovative thinking, and in-depth insight into subjects, client involvement and ethics.

The course is part of the Master’s programme in Health Sciences. It can also be taken as an independent course, or as part of a 30 credit further education programme (E-health and Welfare Technology).

Introduction to the course

This course is for students who wish to learn how e-health solutions can be implemented and used in the health services. This course provides students with the opportunity to learn through critical analysis, a practical project approach and organisational theory topics that focus on how e-health solutions can be introduced at different levels in the health sector.

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in health or social sciences

Knowledge:

  • has advanced knowledge about organisational factors and change management in relation to the implementation e-health solutions 
  • has specialised knowledge about innovation related to e-health 
  • can apply knowledge about project management and project models in the implementation of e-health solutions 
  • can analyse client involvement and professional aspects regarding the implementation of e-health in organisations 

Skills

  • can analyse key issues regarding the use of e-health solutions at individual and organisational levels  
  • can critically apply project management tools or models when implementing e-health solutions  
  • can plan, carry out and evaluate the implementation of a delimited academic project related to welfare or healthcare technology, or other relevant e-health solutions

General competence

  • Can contribute to innovative thinking and in innovation processes related to the use of e-health solutions
  • Can contribute to digital professional development in the health services
  • Can communicate about the use and benefit of e-health solutions in professional and public forums
In addition to the semester fee and course literature, students are expected to provide their own laptop computer with a microphone and video equipment that are of reasonably good quality for conversations. A stable internet connection with sufficient capacity is required to participate in online teaching and group work.
Compulsory depending on the area of specialisation, and compulsory for students studying ‘E-health and Welfare Technology’.
The teaching is given online, but with the possibility of a limited number of physical meetings. Student-active learning activities with different teaching methods: lectures, seminars, group work and project work at a data collection practice placement of the student’s own choice.
The course is evaluated annually by the students through course surveys. These evaluations are part of the University’s quality assurance system.

The course involves one piece of group coursework (AK). Grading: Approved/ not approved. Coursework must be approved before the final course grade can be given.

The examination is an individual assignment (OP). This is in the form of a project that takes place during the teaching period. Grading: A-F
