Neuro-Rehabilitation 1: Balance, Walking and Participation

HEL7004

A completed bachelor's degree or equivalent in health and social sciences or sports is required. (Cf. Admission requirements master in health sciences). The subject is given as an elective in Master in Health Sciences, and it is given as an individual subject. Students at Master in Health Sciences have priority for admission.

An additional requirement is that applicants must document access to practice where rehabilitation of people with injury/disease in the central nervous system is carried out.

Knowledge

  • Has advanced knowledge of neurorehabilitation as an interdisciplinary, interactive, meaning-making process, and specialized insight related to own profession.
  • Has in-depth knowledge of understanding models for function, activity and participation as well as the scientific basis for neurorehabilitation.
  • Has advanced knowledge of movement control and re-learning related to balance, walking and participation and can analyze professional issues in people with injury/disease in the central nervous system.

Skills

  • Can analyze and relate critically to various sources of information and use these to structure and formulate professional reasoning as well as further develop own action competence and practice.
  • Can use relevant clinical skills to optimize movement control, self-activity and participation in people with injury/disease in the central nervous system in an independent way, as well as critically analyze interaction and interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Can analyze theory and practice within the subject area and independently explain the theoretical underpinnings of professional reasoning and goal-setting related to the assessment of balance, walking and participation in people with neurological functional challenges

General competence

  • Can apply their knowledge and skills to new target groups within rehabilitation.
  • Can communicate about professional and ethical issues, analyzes and conclusions within neurorehabilitation, both with specialists and the general public.

Can contribute to innovation and new thinking in neurorehabilitation

No tuition fees. Semester fees and cost of course literature apply.

Collection-based where online and physical teaching are combined, a total of 10 days.

Collections of 1-4 days with lectures, seminars, group work, supervision of fellow students, workshops, case studies, practical and clinical teaching.

Evaluation using mid-term and final surveys. Students are also encouraged to participate in the central quality surveys.

The students carry out two work requirements in or between assemblies that deal with theoretical, practical and clinical issues. Guidelines for work requirements are drawn up. The exam consists of a written home exam with given assignment text.

Compulsory participation and work requirements must be approved in order to receive a final grade in the course.


Assessment scheme:
Work requirements (AK) approved/not approved Compulsory participation (OD) at all digital and physical gatherings and AK. A minimum of 80% attendance is required. Individual home exam (HJ) over 2 weeks Weighting: HJ 100/100 Grading rule: A-F OD and AK must be approved to receive a final grade in the course.
