Master's Thesis in Human Resource Management

The student is free to choose the topic to be addressed in his or her master thesis, for instance in consultation with the supervisor. Students` master theses should, if possible, be linked to relevant research projects / activities at the faculty. The thesis needs to present a clear research question. The research question may include empirical as well as theoretical issues. Empirically oriented theses may be based on data collected through the student's own investigation or on already available data. The thesis should demonstrate that the student is capable of raising relevant research issues, to provide an empirical material required to throw light on the research issues, and to apply a well-suited analytical framework. The thesis may be connected to the student´s own professional practice; thus a description and reflections related to professional practice. The thesis must demonstrate a link to the compulsory courses of the master. The scope of the thesis should not exceed 50 pages, exclusive of the table of contents, bibliography and appendices. It is possible for two students to write together in collaboration. The thesis assignment must in which case be 50 % larger than the individual tasks. It should be possible to identify each participant's contribution. Students who have signed the supervision contract are entitled to a total of 10 hours supervision.
The student needs to be admitted to Master in HRM - experince based. Studentes need to have passed 30 credits, including the course MET5009 Research Methods and Design Part 1

On successful completion of the course:

Knowledge

Students should be able to demonstrate:

  • In-depth insights within a delineated field of knowledge
  • Knowledge of methodological techniques for collecting or possible use of available data
  • An overview of relevant analytical tools matching the topic/issue the student has set out to investigate

Skills

Students should be able to document through their master theses that he / she can manage:

  • to formulate relevant developmental issues
  • to identify methodological problems and challenges
  • to apply analytical tools in such a way that the material highlights the chosen problem
  • to be critical in the interpretation of their own findings

General competence

Students should be able to:

  • master a piece of independent work focusing on key academic / practical issues
  • show an ability to think critically and analytically
  • have an eye for potential ethical challenges
  • be able to present their own research results to subjects / occupational community, policy-makers and the public in general
No costs except semester registration fee and course literature.
Compulsory.

Learning and teaching takes place along three axes;

  • Self-study and individual counseling, face-to-face work, online work or work over the phone.
  • Compulsory master seminar:

1. Theme for the task of problem formulation and research questions

2. Overview of other relevant research ¿ how the student's problem complex can contribute to the field

3. Relevant Theory and Methods

This provides the basis for the allocation of a supervisor to approve the sketch or give feedback regarding the needs for a rework
Annual evaluations which are included in the university\'s quality assurance system

Overlap refers to a similarity between courses with the same content. Therefore, you will receive the following reduction in credits if you have taken the courses listed below:
