Basic Sports Coaching

The course will provide students with an introduction to the most basic topics in sports psychology and sports coaching. Students will receive an introduction to the importance of these topics for people who train and take part in sports at different levels. Through theory and practical training management, students will focus on how coaches/instructors can help increase the effects of physical activity and training for the participants.

Knowledge:

Students will:

  • have knowledge about how to instruct in connection with training
  • have knowledge about different types of personality and training

  • have knowledge about tension and tension regulation
  • have knowledge about coaching methodology

Skills:

Students:

  • can plan training based on athlete/client requirements
  • can reflect on and discuss their own coaching practice
  • can adjust their own coaching practice based on feedback
  • can utilise different teaching principles during coaching
  • can lead training so that athletes/clients experience communication and learning effect
  • can provide sensible feedback to those participating in activities
  • can lead training so that athletes/clients enjoy the training, as well as contribute to adapted tension levels
  • can coach athletes/clients

General competence:

Students:

  • have a conscious attitude towards the dissemination of physical activity and their own role as an instructor
  • can reflect on the coaching role and the various challenges that it entails
  • are able to analyse and assess different aspects of their own coaching function
  • can receive feedback on how they perform their coaching role and adjust it accordingly
  • are able to adapt their own instruction in relation to different groups
No tuition fees. Semester fees and cost of course literature apply.
Compulsory. 
Lectures and practical instruction. 
The programme of study is evaluated annually by the students through course surveys (mid-term evaluation and final evaluation). These evaluations are part of the University’s quality assurance system.

Composite assessment:

  • Written examination, 4 Hours. Represents 50/100 of the grade. Grading scale A-E, Best A, Fail F.
  • Portfolio - 4 pieces of written work to be answered in groups of up to four candidates, represents 50/100 of the grade. Grading scale A-E, Best A, Fail F.
  • Compulsory participation 80%. Grading scale: approved/not approved.

NOTE: Spring 2022: The written school examination has been changed to home examination. The duration of the exam has changed to 2 hours.

Changes are done due to the Covid-19 epidemic, in accordance with the “Provisional Regulation on a Supplement to Regulations of 28/10/2020 no. 2474 Relating to Studies and Examinations at Nord University - Extraordinary Measures as a consequence of the Coronavirus pandemic” - according to Section 2 Forms of assessment 1-4.

Overlap refers to a similarity between courses with the same content. Therefore, you will receive the following reduction in credits if you have taken the courses listed below:
