Effective Coaching in Strength & Conditioning
Knowledge:
Students will:
- have knowledge about various coaching theories
- gain knowledge about the importance of coaches in relation to controlling the mental performance of athletes
- have broad knowledge about delimited topics, theories, issues, processes, tools and methods included in the course.
- understand the importance of coaching in relation to how a coach functions in strength and conditioning
- demonstrate understanding of the importance of communication in the coaching process
- understand ethical challenges involved in the subject’s research, dissemination and practice
Skills:
Students will:
- be able to understand coaching principles and concepts
- be able to acquire new and updated knowledge with the help of technological equipment and dialogue with other coaches
- demonstrate the ability to make informed choices about coaching strategies in relation to different athletes and different groups of athletes in order to promote their development
- be able to reflect on their own professional practice in relation to athletes at different stages of their development
- be able to master relevant tools, techniques and forms of expression so that he/she can communicate with athletes and other coaches in the same position
- develop their own skills as a coach/trainer through a selection of practical exercises. This is carried out in clubs/places of supervised professional training, but also when studying other courses in the programme of study
- assess ethical challenges in the field of practice and adjust their own practice in relation to this
- be able to practice the subject within its most important areas of application
- be able to analyse textual material from the course’s most common sources
- be able to document knowledge and work processes
General competence
Students will:
- look at how coaching is conducted and the importance of everyone having a coaching philosophy
- receive an introduction to how theories about coaching, guidance and management can be integrated into the coach’s repertoire. -
- master the working methods generally utilised within the field of coaching, and particularly in strength and conditioning -
- be able to convey key subject matter such as theories, issues and training solutions in writing, orally and through other relevant forms of expression to various recipients
- be able to exchange points of view and experiences at different academic levels with others who have a background in the subject area, and thereby contribute to the development of good training practices
- have knowledge about relevant innovation and innovative processes
Composite assessment:
- Portfolio - 4 pieces of written work to be answered in groups of up to four candidates. Guidance is given om the work.The candidate finally delivers an overall portifolio and is given an overall grade, represents 50/100 of the grade, grading scale A-E, Best A, Fail F.
- Written examination, 2 Hours. Represents 50/100 of the grade. Grading scale A-E, Best A, Fail F.
- Compulsory participation 80%. Represents 0/100 of the grade. Grading scale: approved/not approved
NOTE: Spring 2022: The written school examination has been changed to home examination.
Changes are done due to the Covid-19 epidemic, in accordance with the “Provisional Regulation on a Supplement to Regulations of 28/10/2020 no. 2474 Relating to Studies and Examinations at Nord University - Extraordinary Measures as a consequence of the Coronavirus pandemic” - according to Section 2 Forms of assessment 1-4.
