Weightlifting

IDR2002
Olympic weightlifting exercises and the exercises that have evolved from these are an important training factor for many athletes. In addition, this type of training often forms the basis for many fitness industry customers. Strength and conditioning coaches must be able to effectively train athletes and others in these exercises. The course will enable students to acquire the necessary knowledge, skills and practical expertise to start a career as a coach in weightlifting and related training exercises.

Knowledge:

Students will:

  • have knowledge about the advantages of incorporating knowledge about weightlifting and similar exercises into a training programme.
  • have broad knowledge about delimited topics, theories, issues, processes, tools and methods included in weightlifting -
  • learn the development of effective training in order to learn various exercises.
  • learn the effective and proper analysis of various lifts and performance monitoring
  • understand ethical challenges involved in the subject’s research, dissemination and practice

Skills:

Students will:

  • be able to analyse the biomechanical basis for the effective execution of the exercises
  • be able to analyse the effective techniques used in these exercises
  • be able to acquire the necessary skills in the practical performance of the exercises
  • learn how to develop effective training programmes for athletes at different levels and ages.
  • be able to reflect on their own professional practice in relation to athletes at different stages of their development
  • be able to master relevant tools, techniques and forms of expression so that he/she can communicate with athletes and other coaches in the same position
  • develop their own skills as a weightlifting coach/trainer and be able to connect this form of training with other forms of training.
  • assess ethical challenges in the field of practice and adjust their own practice in relation to this
  • be able to practice the subject within its most important areas of application
  • be able to document knowledge and work processes

General competence:

Students will:

  • understand and interpret the effective techniques used in the different exercises
  • be able to utilise various forms of technology in order to monitor, demonstrate and explain technical weightlifting development
  • be able to convey key subject matter such as theories, issues and training solutions in writing, orally and through other relevant forms of expression
  • be able to exchange points of view and experiences at different academic levels with others who have a background in the subject area, and thereby contribute to the development of the subject area
  • have knowledge about relevant innovation and innovative processes
Compulsory.
Lectures and practical trials in relation to weightlifting with a focus on self-development and training others.
The programme of study is evaluated annually by the students through course surveys (mid-term evaluation and final evaluation). These evaluations are part of the University’s quality assurance system.

Composite assessment

  • Portfolio - consists of two pieces of written work to be answered in groups of up to four candidates, and one piece of written work that is answered individually. Represents 50/100 of the grade. Grading scale A-E, Best A, Fail F.
  • Practical examination including oral hearing, duration 30 minutes. Represents 50/100 of the grade. Grading scale A-E, Best A, Fail F.

Overlap refers to a similarity between courses with the same content. Therefore, you will receive the following reduction in credits if you have taken the courses listed below:
