Sports Nutrition

The study within Sports Nutrition is included as a compulsory part of the bachelor program in Strength & Conditioning (S&C). The study can also be conducted as a free-standing module. Throughout the course, the students will receive a general introduction to nutrition and nutrition and energy effect. The study will specifically focus on nutrition in the context of different types of training and physical activity, and focuses on how nutrition can improve the effect of different types of exercise. The course will also take into account how proper nutrition can positively affect the recovery process after different forms of exercise

The candidate will receive a basic introduction to different aspects of the energy effect in humans and the study will also focus in particular on the importance nutrition has in terms of training and competitions.

Knowledge:

The student shall

  • have a broad knowledge about specific themes, theories, issues, processes, equipment and methods included in the course
  • have the necessary factual knowledge relevant to the area
  • be able to identify differences among the most common theories and methods within the subject
  • be familiar with research and development work in the topic
  • have knowledge about the topic's history, traditions, distinctiveness and place in society
  • understand ethical challenges involved in the research, dissemination and practice of the subject

Skills

The student shall

  • be able to use professional knowledge and relevant results from research and development work on practical and/or theoretical issues
  • be able to appropriate new updated knowledge
  • show the ability to make informed choices
  • be able to reflect on their own professional practice and adapt it under supervision
  • be able to find, assess and refer to information and subject material as well as prepare this so that it sheds light on an issue.
  • be able to master relevant tools, techniques and styles
  • be able to assess ethical challenges in the field of practice and adjust their own practice in relation to this
  • be able to practice the subject within its most important fields of application
  • be able to analyse textual material from the subject's most common sources  be able to document knowledge and working processes

General competence

The student shall

  • have insight into relevant subject and profession-specific ethical issues
  • be able to plan and implement work assignments and projects applying to the course
  • master the working methods that apply in accordance with ethical requirements and guidelines
  • be able to disseminate key subject material such as theories, issues and solutions in writing, orally and through other relevant expressions
  • be able to exchange views and experiences with others with different backgrounds in their field of expertise and thereby contribute to the development of good practice
  • be familiar with any new ideas and innovation processes

There will be an internal evaluation of the course near the end of term. Centrally administered course evaluations are an important part of the university's quality assurance system and students are strongly encouraged to take part.

NOTE: Spring 2021: The written school examination has been changed to home examination.
