Informational and Educational Aspects of Social Media
IKT1022
This course will focus on different social media tools and how they can be used to build a digital identity. The aim of the course is to provide insight into how social media affect society and how they can be used for personal and professional development. We will look upon the following concepts: user-generated content, online interaction, digital visibility, lifelong learning, and personal learning networks. The course is part of Nord University's international offering and the course is taught in both Norwegian and English.
Knowledge
Upon completion of the course the student will:
- Understand the features of various social media
- Understand the importance of networking
- Know the use of social media for educational purposes
Skills
Upon completion of the course the student will be:
- Able to build digital visibility
- Participate actively in collaboration with others through social media
- Be able to use social media for educational purposes
General competence
Upon completion of the course the student will:
- Be able to analyse and reflect in a critical way on her/his own use of social media
- Demonstrate insight into new features of social communication
- Use social media as learning tools
Paid semester fee and syllabus literature. It is also required that students have a laptop at their disposal.
The study programme is evaluated annually by students by way of course evaluation studies. These evaluations are included in the universitys quality assurance system.
