Practical Knowledge about Sports 2

IVB130

Skills development in sports emphasises practical training, training management and facilitation, as well as the development of one's own skills and knowledge. IVB 130 is closely linked to IVB 140, where students will gain insight into how performance development can occur and be disseminate through different appropriate methods in the sports volleyball, handball, basketball, soccer randonee skiing and dancing. The course will focus on the ability to teach the sports at the basic level: skills in planning, facilitating, organizing, assessing and reflecting on training and learning in sports.

Participation and active collaboration between students is necessary in order to achieve the desired formulations for learning outcomes we have set for the subject.

Applicants for the study programme must meet the requirements for Higher Education Entrance Qualification or equivalent prior learning and work experience. See information from North University regarding admission based on prior learning and work experience. Upon admission, a valid police certificate must be submitted. Applicants are ranked according to the provisions given in regulations for admission to higher education. Admission takes place through national coordinated admission.

KNOWLEDGE

  • In-depth knowledge of basic skills and different specific factors for skills development in volleyball, handball, basketball and soccer
  • Knowledge of the facilitation and follow-up of appropriate training in team sports. 
  • Knowledge about methods and principles for skills development in team sports that can be used and implemented in other sporting contexts. 
  • Students will acquire knowledge, insight and skills in selected elements of volleyball, handball, basketball and football
  • Knowledge about different conditions for skills development, including the learning area. This will explicitly be learning goals for week-long ski courses (alpine & cross-country skiing)

SKILLS

  • Can demonstrate personal skills and the development of those skills in the sports volleyball, handball, basketball and soccer.
  • Can facilitate and lead training workouts through differentiated working methods, including maintaining training principles and practitioners' safety.
  • Develop the ability to train groups in sports. Plan, facilitate, organize and direct activity based on goals for the session, then assess and reflect on training and teaching in the sports volleyball, handball, basketball and soccer.
  • Is able to use different learning arenas to promote performance development in team sports, as well as ski sports.

GENERAL COMPETENCY

  • Has the ability to analyse different sports and physical activity from the perspectives of physiology, anatomy, theories of training and movement.
  • Has the ability to evaluate general and specific factors linked to training in sport and physical activity.
  • Has the ability to disseminate knowledge to practitioners based on pedagogical and training principles

Obligatory   
On the basis of research, theory and practice, the students will, through lectures, practical teaching, supervision group work, student-led activity and personal training, achieve the learning outcomes set for the course. There will also be investigation of different learning arenas for performance development, including skiing lessons (cross country and alpine skiing). The course work plan defines this in more detail.
The programme of study is evaluated annually by the students through subject questionnaires (a mid-term evaluation and a final evaluation). Evaluation is part of the university's quality assurance system.
