This course discusses the media and journalism from an outside-perspective. It entails questions as the role and function of media within democracy. vital concepts are media and power, democarcy, public debate, opinionmaking, freedom of speech, meda representation, media policy and how globalization affects the media. in addition, language are vital: all descriptions of reality are subject to the possibilities and constraints of language. The coruse will adress how all this concepts also is vital fro the practical journalistic professional exercise, and take into account how the mediated society is in constant change and development. Further, the course supply important preparation for the later work with the bachelor thesis,.

* understand ethical challenges in the mediated praxis

- can apply the professional knowledge in nalysis and dicussions of mediated issues and quesitions in a critical and independent way

- do take a critical and conscious stance towards the role as journalists

- is able to find, judge and refer to information and professional knowledge, and apply it to adress vital professional problems.

- can exchange views and experiences wity others within the profession

- can reflect upon journalistic professional work and the role and power of media from an outside-perspective.
