The subject gives an introduction to craftsmanship, processes within art and design, visual communication  and cultural understanding. The subject emphasizes working practical with two- and three-dimensional forms.
Can be chosen as an elective subject in teacher education.

Learning outcomes

KNOWLEDGE

The candidate

  • has knowledge of relevant materials, techniques, equipment and aesthetic tools, with main emphasis on two-dimensional forms of expression
  • has knowledge of how analogue and digital forms of expression in art can be interpreted and used as a basis for children's creative work in basic education 
  • has knowledge about children's two- and three dimensional forms of expression with related theories of aesthetic learning, experience, play and creativity, with main emphasis on two-dimensional forms of expression
  • has knowledge of current legislation and rules concerning copyright, privacy and source criticism.  

SKILLS

The candidate 

  • can master the basic techniques and skills in various materials adapted two- and three dimensional work, with main emphasis on three-dimensional form of expression
  • can work constructively with idea development, documentation and evaluation, including of their own creative processes 
  • can organize exhibitions of student work, present and highlight the subject at various venues in other ways
  • can use subject content, working methods and theory in lesson planning, implementation and learning-oriented assessment in a way that also ensures the five basic skills

GENERAL PRACTICE The candidate

  • can explain how creative work with materials challenges senses, engages emotions, requires concentration and activates the body
  • can utilize student diversity as a basis for adapted education
  • can explain how choice of materials, working methods and topics safeguards the environment.'

Costs of material NOK 400,-

Elective
Teaching methods vary between lectures, individual work, group work, exhibitions and oral presentations. Documentation of work processes can occur through analogue and/or digital logs. Candidates are required to carry out a significant amount of independent study.
Evaluation using mid-term and final surveys. Students are also encouraged to participate in the central quality surveys.
The student will need to plan and teach some arts and craft during the period they are working in the school. 
  • MA - Portfolio including visual log 100% of overall grade. Grading scale: A-F.
  • Practical, oral and written coursework must be approved before the exam.
  • Compulsory participation in at least 80% of all teaching.

Overlap refers to a similarity between courses with the same content. Therefore, you will receive the following reduction in credits if you have taken the courses listed below:

KHV1018 - Arts and crafts 1B - Visual communications - 7.5 credits
