Basic Mathematics
MAT1010
The course provides a basic introduction to simple mathematical methods that are important to apply in natural sciences. Subjects that will be taught is: fractions, exponentiations, calculations with parentheses, first degree equations, second degree equations, percent, logarithms, measurements and significant figures, equation of a straight line (graphic presentation), and some simple descriptive statistics.

The subject is reserved for the study programmes Nature Management, Animal Welfare and Animal Sciences - Welfare and Production. Other students can get admitted if there are places available. Contact student advisor.
Students must meet current admission requirements for the associated study program.
Upon completion of the course, the student is expected to:
Knowledge:
- has basic knowledge of selected mathematical methods
Skills:
- can understand and apply the selected basic methods and principles in mathematics
General competence:
- can account for the selected mathematical terms and principles
- has basic knowledge of the application of the selected mathematical methods
Paid semester fee and syllabus literature. It is also required that students have a laptop at their disposal.
Compulsory for nature management, animal welfare and the animal sciences - welfare and production programme.
Lectures and assignments.
Evaluated annually by students through course surveys. These evaluations are included in the university’s quality assurance system.
Written examination, 3 hours. Grading scale A-F.
Calculator (Casio fx-82 series - marked with model name fx-82, with one or more letters in addition (but not numbers), or similar).
Generating an answer using ChatGPT or similar artificial intelligence and submitting it wholly or partially as one's own answer is considered cheating.
No prior knowledge is required beyond the admission requirement.
