Production 2: Virtual Production
Virtual production is characterised by moving the majority of critical decisions to pre-production phase and has adopted iterative design and decision-making processes up front as a production design methodology.
The course is inter-disciplinary. Students from Film & TV production, Games & Entertainment Technology and CG Art & Animation work across all 3 programs in production teams. Formalizing a concept and taking this through to a final production using virtual production methods.
It covers key concepts, overview of technologies, and best practices which are the basis for work in the virtual production field. Students will learn how the techniques of VP can help and complement traditional production techniques to create immersive and visually stunning experiences.
This course also provides opportunities to produce content for research projects, festivals, etc.
After completing the course, the student can:
Knowledge
- identify roles and responsibilities within a virtual production team
- identify reflective models used in the process of continuous learning
- knows about construction and maintenance of VP production schedule
- knows the basics of VP technologies
- understand a VP production workflow
Skills
- communicate a story idea through visual representation
- work effectively within a team to contribute to a production
- identify the core purpose and message of a project
- connect real and virtual world through VP technology
- choose the relevant tools for virtual production in different phases
General Competence
- work within an iterative pipeline and workflow
- develop interdisciplinary collaborative skills and knowledge
- formalise self-reflection through critical analysis and action planning
Project-based learning: The course is centered around a practical project that integrates theory and practice.
- Collaborative Project Work: Students work in interdisciplinary teams to develop a media product, simulating real-world production environments.
- Workshops
- Supervision with regular check-ins and feedback.
- Peer Feedback
Reflective Journaling: Students maintain a journal or logbook documenting their creative process, challenges, and learning moments.
