Research Methods

MET1001
The course provides an introduction to social science methodology, and provides students with an overview of relevant quantitative and qualitative research methods in economics and business administration, as well as examples of computer tools that can be used within the different methods.

Knowledge The candidate should have: 

  • knowledge of concepts within science
  • knowledge of different research designs and method selection
  • knowledge of the research process
  • knowledge of qualitative and quantitative methods 

Skills The candidate should: 

  • be able to formulate researchable issues
  • be able to complete a small research project
  • be able to use computer tools in qualitative and quantitative analyzes
  • be able to interpret qualitative and quantitative data
  • be able to report from smaller research projects 

General competence The candidate should: 

  • be able to discuss the relationship between theory and empirical
  • be able to reflect critically on theoretical and empirical sources
  • be able to reflect critically on their own choice of method
  • be able to describe, understand and explain the differences between scientific knowledge and other knowledge
No costs except semester registration fee and syllabus literature.
Compulsory
There will be regular lectures, and that it will be conducted lab exercises / demonstrations in the use of statistical software and software for text analysis. In addition, students will apply the theory in a mandatory task. Further information regarding progress and work is given when the course starts.
The study programme is evaluated annually by students by way of course evaluation studies (mid-term evaluation and final evaluation). These evaluations are included in the university's quality assurance system.
