Research Methods
MET1001
The course provides an introduction to qualitative and quantitative research methods relevant in economics and business administration. Students get a practical introduction to research methods that will enable them to carry through both small and larger research projects, as well as getting familiar with relevant computer tools that can be used within the different methods.
Knowledge
The candidate should:
- have a broad knowledge of the research process from research question to finished report
- have knowledge about different research designs and method selection
- have knowledge about qualitative and quantitative data collection and analysis
- know relevant principles within research ethics
- know basic concepts within science
Skills
The candidate should:
- be able to formulate feasible research questions and choose relevant methods to answer the research questions
- be able to collect and analyze qualitative and quantitative data
- be able to use computer tools in qualitative and quantitative analyzes
- be able to discuss the relationship between theory and empiric
General competence
The candidate should:
- be able to plan, carry out and report on a minor research project
- be able to reflect critically on their own choice of method
- be able to describe, understand and explain the differences between scientific knowledge and other knowledge
Paid semester fee and syllabus literature. It is also required that students have a laptop at their disposal.
Compulsory
There will be regular lectures, and that it will be conducted lab exercises / demonstrations in the use of statistical software and software for text analysis. In addition, students will apply the theory in a mandatory task. Further information regarding progress and work is given when the course starts.
The study programme is evaluated annually by students by way of course evaluation studies. These evaluations are included in the university's quality assurance system.
