The course deals with statistical methods and analyses that provide a basis for quantitative research in speech therapy. The course gives an introduction to univariate and bivariate descriptive statistics, analytical statistics and the use of statistical software.

Knowledge

The student shall possess

  • in-depth knowledge of statistical analyses and their application to quantitative research methods

Skills

The student must be able to

  • select and carry out relevant statistical analyses on quantitative data
  • interpret results and conclusions based on statistical analyses
  • read and understand quantitative research literature

General competence

The student must be able to

  • plan, carry out, evaluate and disseminate their own quantitative research work
  • demonstrate the ability to critically reflect on their own and others' quantitative research work
  • acquire an understanding of and proficiency in more advanced statistical analyses
  • contribute to new thinking and innovation in the field
Compulsory
The course is organised as lectures related to the various topics. Theoretical topics will be highlighted through lectures, tasks, cases, knowledge exchange and group and plenary discussions. A high degree of self-study and independent study group work is required between the seminars.
The programme of study is evaluated annually by the students through course surveys (mid-term evaluation and final evaluation). These evaluations are part of the University’s quality assurance system.

Compound assessment:

Written assignment - individual statistical assignment, represents 100/100. Assessed with grades A-F, A best, F fail.

Compulsory participation - 80% attendance, represents 0/100. Assessed as approved/not approved.

This course must be completed and passed before the exam for the "PE323L Master's thesis speech therapy" course can be taken. The "Statistics" course is recommended prior knowledge for "Theory of Science and method 2".

Overlap refers to a similarity between courses with the same content. Therefore, you will receive the following reduction in credits if you have taken the courses listed below:
