The master`s thesis represents an independent research endeavor undertaken in the final year of studu. It is imperative that the thesis possesses an applied focus offering practical value to both the student and relevant organization. The thesis mau be collaboratively authored by up to three students. However, individual authorship can be permitted upon application approval. In the thesis, students are required to elucidate a research problem through a selected theoretical and methodological framework. Prosjects involving personal data must be reported to Sikt. The thesis should span approximately 60-80 pages, exclusive of the bibliography and appendices (e.g., interview guides, concent forms). The thesis must be formatted in A4 size, with 1, 5 line spacing, using Times New Roman 12 or Calibiri 11 font, and submitted via Inspera.
The course is reserved for the students admitted to the master's programme in Knowledge Management.
In order to begin the course, all courses at master’s level (MKL110, MKL120, MKL210 and MKL220) must be passed. This applies also to all compulsory coursework requirements. The course is reserved for the students admitted to the master's programme in Knowledge Management.

After completing the course, candidates will have attained the following learning outcomes defined in knowledge, skills and general competence:

• have specialized insight within a limited area related to knowledge management

• has in-depth knowledge of scientific theory and research methods

• has in-depth knowledge of identifying and solving practice-related problems in organized activity based on the traditions of the subject area

Candidate's skills:

• can analyze and relate critically to different theories and different research methods

• can carry out independent work that meets the requirements for a master's thesis

• can communicate and justify different choices of the connection between the problem and the choice of theoretical perspective and research method

• can carry out project work based on research ethical guidelines

• can document and present findings from an investigation in a scientific manner

General competence

The candidate:

• can use scientific theories and social science methods at a high level in the implementation of development projects

• can analyze and produce data material, whether it has been collected by others or oneself

• can communicate practical matters related to the research process

• can apply methodological knowledge to be able to make well-founded choices in project work

• can convey extensive independent work and master the subject's forms of expression

• can communicate about professional issues, analyzes and conclusions within the subject area, both with specialists and to the general public

Compulsory theoretical course.
Participation in assignment seminars and academic supervision. Students receive academic supervision along the way by an appointed supervisor. The supervision shall ensure that the student receives advice on literature, practical advice on any data collection or changes to the project, and that research ethical guidelines are followed. Academic supervision is therefore a compulsory part of writing the master's thesis. The assessment will nevertheless be based on an individual oral examination in which the candidates present and discuss the findings, strengths and weaknesses of the thesis together with an internal and external examiner.
