Second Instrument, Vocal Training 1
The Bi-instrument Vokal course provides a basic introduction to song and voice use focusing on singing, as well as joy of singing and repertoire range. The course aims to provide experience in vocal diversity in terms of genres, style and language. The course aims to provide students with confidence in their own voice and an insight and understanding of the voice’s potential for musical performance.
The course will provide students with experience of multiple voice and solo singing and will further focus on performance and communication. The course emphasises repertoire knowledge and experience of different ways of working and communicating, and is adapted to vocal work with children in primary and lower secondary school. The course also includes directing various forms of singing activity, in which focus is on playing by ear and different forms of improvisation and arranging.
KNOWLEDGE
The student
- has knowledge and experience of the song’s cultural and community qualities
- has insight into basic anatomical and physiological principles associated with use of the voice
- has basic knowledge of the ways in which the voice can be used, relating to different target groups, genres and formats
- has knowledge of different didactic methods related to singing activity in primary and lower secondary school.
- has knowledge of planning, conducting and evaluating song rehearsals
SKILLS
The student
- has basic technical and musical skills in the use of the voice
- can communicate and perform a repertoire for others, vocally in groups and as a soloist.
- can apply the singing voice to educational work
- has basic knowledge of how variation in their own and others’ use of the voice can contribute to variation in working methods, performance, integrity and healthy use of the voice
- can study and direct singing in teaching situations
- has basic experience of using a microphone and PA system
- can plan, conduct and evaluate their own performance
GENERAL COMPETENCE
The student
- can communicate their own perceptions and demonstrate the ability to reflect on the use of the voice in teaching situations
- has attitudes and knowledge that can help to create a sense of achievement and good community experience with singing, for themselves and others
- has thorough knowledge of the various ways of using the voice and associated functions.
The teaching is organized in a whole class and with supervision in groups and individually.
Compulsory teaching because students have a mutual learning benefit by working together. The program has a progression that requires to a certain extent a common academic progression, not least when it comes to the acquisition of repertoire and rehearsal and making music together.
Mandatory participation (OD) 80% in order to take the exam.
A practical coursework requirement (AK) must be approved in order to receive a final course grade.
Examination:
Practical examination (PE) Grading scale: Pass/fail. Duration: up to two hours
