This course provides students with an introduction to the organizing and practical conduct of cultural heritage preservation. Emphasis is placed on familiarising students with current legislation as well as preservation-specific issues related to this.

  • human history and dating of various forms of cultural Heritage
  • cultural heritage management
  • cultural heritage legislation
  • knowledge of selected preservation-related issues
  • sami cultural Heritage
  • practical cultural heritage preservation
Students must meet current admission requirements for the associated study program.

Upon successful completion of this course, the student:

Knowledge:

  • has knowledge of relevant laws and regulations
  • has knowledge of different forms of cultural heritage

Skills:

  • can apply law to cultural heritage preservation
  • can identify and date selected cultural heritage objects

General competence:

  • has insight of relevant legislation and regulations related to cultural heritage
  • has knowledge of the structure of cultural heritage preservation management
No tuition fees. Semester fees and cost of course literature apply.
Compulsory

Lectures, group work and excursions. Large sections of teaching is provided in the form of field trips.

There is a requirement for at least 80% attendance at the lectures.

Evaluated annually by students through course surveys. These evaluations are included in the university’s quality assurance system.

Compound assessment.

  • Compulsory participation - attendance 80%. Approved/ Not approved. Must be passed prior to the individual semester assignment. and the take-home examination.
  • Written assignment - individual semester assignment, comprises 50% of the grade, grading scale A-F.
  • Take-home examination - individual, 6 hours, comprises 50% of the grade, grading scale A-F.

All aids permitted.

Generating an answer using ChatGPT or similar artificial intelligence and submitting it wholly or partially as one's own answer is considered cheating.
