Business Development

Industries seek persons with practical skills and experience in problem solving, development of ideas and teamwork. This course focuses on development and realization of business ideas to profitable business concepts. Groups consisting of 4-6 students will during the course develop a business plan in collaboration with an entrepreneur or a business. The course will give you valuable training through cooperation with Entrepreneurs and the possibility to apply knowledge you have acquired in other courses.
The course is only open to students in the Master of Science in Business study programme.
Students must fulfill the admission requirements for the two-year Master of Science in Business programme or the MBA programme. The language on the subject and work-shop is Norwegian and the business plans is written in Norwegian. It is therefore required that students master the Norwegian language - both orally and in writing.

Upon completed course the student will have the following learning outcome.

Knowledge

Through developing a business plan the students have acquired thorough and and specialized knowledge concerning:

  • Business idea, goals and vision
  • Customers needs, product requirements and product development
  • Market needs and market strategy
  • Organization and corporate structure
  • Use of analytic tools
  • Preparation of action plans
  • Budgeting, capital, financing and risk
  • Business models
  • Issues that are important in order to get the team to function
  • Relevant concepts i order to describe the processes relating to team work

Skills - The student can

  • Evaluate different opportunities for developing a business idea.
  • Developing in collaboration with and entrepreneur/ business a business plan and consequently gain insights in the specific parts and the connection among the different sections in the plan.
  • Reflect over team cooperation and how one own as well as others actions and manners influence the cooperation

General competence - the student can

  • Applying theoretical knowledge on a practical and real case
  • Collecting, structuring, processing and analyzing large amounts of information
  • Carry out a team project
No costs except semester registration fee and syllabus literature
Elective
A combination of lectures and group work is provided. Compulsory attendance to lectures, work-shop and in group work.
The study programme is evaluated annually by students by way of course evaluation studies (mid-term evaluation and final evaluation). These evaluations are included in the university's quality assurance system.
