Organisations established activities are continually challenged in a world of increasing market dynamics, political shifts, global challenges and ever-accelerating technological development. Companies as well as public organisations must focus on innovation and development. In order to succeed, they need leaders as well as employees who can identify and exploit new opportunities, carry out innovation processes and who create involvement for change among their co-workers.

This course provides students with insight into the developing of new business opportunities in new as well as existing organisations, innovation in the public sector, and in how to approach major and minor challenges in society through an entrepreneurial mindset.

It is possible to apply for admission to the course as a single course. There are reservations about the available capacity on the course. The applicant must meet the current admission requirements for the Master of Science in Business program.

Knowledge

After completing the course, the candidate should have gained knowledge about:

• The importance of innovation in public and private organizations, and on internal and external driving forces for innovation

• How innovation and business development processes can be initiated, implemented and evaluated

• Challenges and barriers to innovation and change in organizations, and how to meet such challenges

• The development of products and services, and identification of new business areas/opportunities

• The composition and facilitation of effective teamwork

Skills

After completing the course, the candidate should:

• Be able to analyze internal and external drivers for change, and diagnose the need for change and development

• Be able to adapt to significant social changes, such as increased digitalization, focus on social and environmental sustainability, and changes in international relations and interaction, including identifying and addressing relevant challenges and opportunities that arise

• Have the ability to identify and address challenges and opportunities within an organization through an entrepreneurial mindset

• Be able to find and use relevant tools for innovation and business development

• Have the ability to handle changes and uncertainties in an organization

• Understand the role of the leader in change processes – how to inspire and create understanding and commitment for change among employees through communication and involvement

General competence

After completing the course, the candidate should have learned:

  • To collaborate in interdisciplinary teams
  • Active problem solving
  • To manage and carry out a project in a team
  • Communication, presentation and dissemination in change and innovation processes
There are no specific costs for this programme, other than the regular semester registration fee and costs related to acquiring course literature.
Mandatory

The course emphasizes student-centered learning methods, where students work on real-world challenges. A variety of pedagogical approaches will be employed:

  • Intensive project work where students collaborate in teams on a concrete project in partnership with a company, public organization, or non-profit organization. Elements of team development and self-awareness concerning individual roles in the team will be integral to the process. The project work will include supervision.
  • Physical and digital lectures.
The study programme is evaluated annually by questionnaires to students as well as by the Programme Director. The evaluations constitute a part of the University¿s quality assurance system.
