Emergency Preparedness Organizations and Crisis Response
ORG5001
This course provides insight into emergency preparedness organizations¿ aims and functions, and national preparedness systems. This course focuses on learning objectives and techniques in preparedness organizations, and competence needs for emergency response operations. The students learn about partnership and collaboration challenges between emergency response agencies. The students will have training and simulator-based exercises in NORDLAB- Nord university¿s preparedness management Laboratory.
Knowledge:
- Thorough knowledge on how the public and private emergency preparedness system is organized and collaborates, and on the critical factors influencing emergency response
- Advanced knowledge about theoretical approaches for studying emergency preparedness organizations, organizational learning and strategic competence management
- Knowledge about the importance of competence development within emergency preparedness
Skills:
- Be able to recognize types of incident and to analyze emergency preparedness systems based on different theoretical approaches
- Be able to utilize theoretical approaches to solve practical challenges within preparedness organization, organizational learning and strategic competence management for emergency preparedness
- Be able to plan, arrange and evaluate different training approaches and exercises aiming at competence development
General competences:
- Be able to acquire and learn from research literature within organizational theory, learning and competence development of relevance for emergency preparedness organizations
- Be able to assess different academic approaches on emergency preparedness organization for crisis response
- Be able to work independently and with others on the course's topics in emergency response, organizational learning and evaluation.

Mandatory
Lectures, work in groups, self-study and exercise in simulator lab.
Evaluation using mid-term and final surveys. Students are also encouraged to participate in the central quality surveys.
