University Pedagogy - Basic Course
Nord University places emphasis on high quality teaching. University Pedagogy is a basic course that aims to provide knowledge about key topics relating to teaching, learning, supervision and the use of digital tools. The course is a key measure in the institution's strategy for developing the university as an educational institution by strengthening the teaching and supervision skills of its employees and their ability to critically reflect on and evaluate their own professional practice and that of others.
The course focuses on the individual teaching and supervision of those attending. Knowledge development takes place through the participants reflecting on the planning, implementation, evaluation and development of teaching and supervision based on theory and the scientific prerequisites and distinctive nature of the individual course/subject, in collaboration with fellow students and teachers. This takes place by continuously switching between theory and practice-oriented elements in order to strengthen the development of individual practice.
The course workload corresponds to about 200 hours. Since the programme is practice-oriented, the participants must have their own teaching/supervision with students in order to be able to carry out the work tasks in the programme. If they do not, we expect that the Faculty will help by providing UNIPED students (the employees) with access to teach/supervise students, e.g. by collaborating with a colleague.
This programme is reserved for academic staff and doctoral research fellows at Nord University who wish to develop their teaching and supervision expertise. Having a Master’s degree is a formal minimum requirement. As the programme is practice-oriented and aims to develop you as a teacher, it is a requirement that you have your own teaching/supervison while the course is in progress. If you do not have your own teaching, you must make sure that you have access to teach/supervise, for example through a colleagues students.
Those attending must be fluent in English. Lectures are held in English, but those attending may use Norwegian (or a Scandinavian language: Swedish, Danish) when writing.
All employees who are relevant for the course must apply for admission by the application deadline, through EVUweb. You should use Feide or MinID for logging in to EVUweb. The list of applicants is then shared with the Faculty's management, which nominates the applicants on the basis of the places available at the Faculty. A waiting list will be drawn up if the Faculty has more applicants than places.
Please note that the course requires 80% compulsory attendance/participation and it must be approved in order to take the exam, so it is important that you and your manager have cleared your work schedule if you are going to apply for University Pedagogy (UNIPED). The session dates are published under "Sessions" as soon as they are ready.

- can analyse, prepare and further develop course and programme descriptions within their subject areas.
- can analyse and critically relate to various sources of information, and national and international steering documents related to teaching in higher education.
- can carry out an independent, defined research or development project under supervision and in accordance with applicable research ethics norms.
General competence
The candidate

Composite assessment - all parts must be approved/passed in order to obtain a final grade for the course, but please note the requirement for OD:
- Compulsory participation (OD), represents 80% attendance - grading scale approved/not approved. OD must be approved in order to take the exam.
- Coursework requirements (AK) - Individual - grading scale approved/not approved. A total of three AKs shall be submitted during the course of the programme. The topics in these are descriptions of teaching plans, reflections on assessment/planning, reflections on learning theories and other key topics. Genres may be scientific articles, oral presentations, films, audio files and composite texts, etc.
- Oral exam (MU) - Individual exam, 30 minutes. In a group of around five students, you will describe and reflect on your own educational journey and development throughout the course. In addition to feedback and grading from the examiner, you will both receive and give feedback to a selection of fellow students. You must therfore be able to attend the hole day. Grade: passed/not passed. Represents 100/100 of the grade.
Overlap refers to a similarity between courses with the same content. Therefore, you will receive the following reduction in credits if you have taken the courses listed below:
