Pedagogy and Pupil Knowledge 1A, 5-10

PEL1003
Pedagogy and student knowledge shall contribute to progress, coherence and context for the student in the meeting between practice, subject and pedagogy. The course gives an introduction in didactics, learning and the teacher role. In the first year the focus will be on development of the reflective teacher with a critical perspective on own practice.

Knowledge

The candidate:

  • Has knowledge about the school's mandate and purpose.
  • Has knowledge about central didactic principles in teaching.
  • Has extensive knowledge about a variety of teaching and assessment methods in education.
  • Has knowledge and insight into how his/her behavior, communication and attitudes can affect interaction with pupils, colleagues and parents.
  • Has extensive knowledge about how competencies in interaction and basic skills can facilitate learning.
  • Has knowledge about how practical, creative and aesthetic learning processes can affect health, well-being and learning
  • Has extensive knowledge about pupils' learning with reference to motivation, meaning and love of life.

Skills

The candidate:

  • Can plan and conduct systematic observation and analyze data from the observation.
  • Can use specialist terms and justify their didactic choices in theory about learning and teaching.
  • Can use research-based knowledge to practice good class management and develop a safe and inclusive learning environment for the students.
  • Can cooperate with colleagues in the planning, implementation and evaluation of teaching and learning.
  • Can, from an early stage, use scientific theory and methodological knowledge

General competence

The candidate:

  • Can plan, implement and evaluate teaching for students based on existing framework factors and the current curriculum.
  • Can maintain dialogue, based on reflection and academic knowledge, with the pupil and their parents about the pupil's well-being, learning and overall development.Has personal and professional value consciousness as basis of development of his/her pedagogical approach in his/her role as a teacher.
Compulsory.

The teacher education programme has a focus on professional practice. Active participating in teaching and learning, and cooperative learning are essential.

Participation in all planned learning activities is compulsory. Teaching is organised into year groups, classes and tutorial groups.

The programme is designed to facilitate learning in a range of arenas and contexts, including lectures, online meetings, study groups, seminar groups, professional practice and discussions forums. Independent study is also an important part of learning.

Supervision forms part of the learning and teaching process. During supervision, students are encouraged to participate actively in identifying, exploring and solving problems.

Professional practice is an integral part of the subject. There is a focus on relating subject theory to practice in schools, with the goal of establishing connections between content and methods in pedagogy and student knowledge, and practice training. The common goal for professional practice in the first year of the teaching programme is establishment of the student`s teaching identity.   • Compulsory participation (OD): Participation in at least 80 % of all planned learning activities. Grading scale: Approved/Not Approved.
  • Compulsory work approved. 
  • Take-home examination (HJ/H): 2nd semester. Individual. 5 days. Grading scale: A-F. 100 %.

Overlap refers to a similarity between courses with the same content. Therefore, you will receive the following reduction in credits if you have taken the courses listed below:
