International Relations

This subject provides general knowledge in various topics within international relations. Main emphasis is on Security and Foreign policy
The course will provide an in depth understanding in the field of International Relations theory, with special focus on International Politics, Power, Security and Foreign policy. We also focus on theory, perspectives, and models processes and activities within topics such as Security, Power, and global foreign politics in general. The SDGs are also discussed in relation to security and foregin politics. Sentral questions we ask are e.g. Which teories, perspectives and models may we use to understand The International arena? What are states goals in Foreign Policy and Security? What are Power on the International Arena and how do states use their power in general?

This subject is compulsory for students taking Bachelor in International Relations and for the One-year- program in International relations.

The subject is open for those with general study competence/study skills, according to current Norwegian regulations

Admission is based on general study competence (university entrance) or work competence (prior learning) according to current Norwegian regulations.

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

Knowledge:

  • Basic knowledge about the international arena based on theoretical and empirical analysis.
  • Basic knowledge in international relations and Foreign Policy.
  • Basic knowledge in Norwegian security and foregin politics

Skills:

  • Candidates have skills to discuss in depth principles in International Relations in a theoretical matter
  • Candidates have skills (in both oral and writing performances) in academic topics like Security and Foregin Policy.
  • Candidates have skills in discussing prosesses and structures on the International arena

General Competence:

  • General competence related to the subjcet International Politics
  • General competence related to understanding the basis for how and why states act on The International arena
No costs except semester registration fee and syllabus literature. It is assumed that students have a laptop.
Compulsory course for the study programmes Bachelor in International relations, One-year-program in International Relations and the senior teacher programme. Elective course for other students.
Weekly lectures, seminars, and tutored assignment work. When students have school exams they have to attend at Bodø Campus
The study programme is evaluated annually by students (mid-term evaluation and final evaluation). These evaluations are included in the university's quality assurance system.
Individual school exam. 6 hours. Evaluation criterias are A-F
