Internship in Biology

PRA2060

For students in the bachelor's programme in Biology, the internship can be in Norway or abroad. For students in Veterinary Nursing (dyrepleie), the internship can only be abroad. The course consists of a 12 week full-time internship/work placement in a relevant company or educational entity abroad.

For quality assurance, an internship abroad is only recognised if one of the following conditions applies:

  • If the placement is done at one of Nord’s partner universities, either through Erasmus+ or bilateral agreements.
  • If the laboratory or company abroad has a collaboration agreement with one of Nord’s partner universities
  • If the project in which you will participate, such as a marine conservation project or other, is recognised by a study abroad grant schemes, such as Erasmus+

Based on two years of academic progression in the bachelor's program in Biology or a bachelor's degree in Veterinary Nursing (dyrepleie). Satisfactory study results are required. It is assumed that the students have good enough language skills to function in a practical work situation at the internship company.

For an internship abroad, deadlines apply other than what applies to regular courses. The student must report interest in internships abroad to the faculty administration and International Office by 1st September or January 20th of the semester preceding the internship. These and other deadlines are stated in the practice handbook.

The internship company must be approved in advance, and the student and company must sign an internship agreement. The internship handbook contains guidelines for internships, information about the application process and a number of practical matters. The students must expect to arrange their own internship, but that this must be approved by the faculty. The internship must be supervised, and the student must be followed up by a contact person in the company. Only practice conducted under the guidance of the Faculty of Biosciences and Aquaculture can be included in this course.

On successful completion of the course:

  • Be able to apply knowledge gained during the first two years of study to parts of the host organization/company's work area.
