RET2001
The course provides an introduction to tax for individual taxpayers and businesses, and gives an overview of the main principles and the main provisions of the tax system, with particular emphasis on understanding of the Taxation systematics. The course will provide knowledge of the tax system with the main focus on the taxation of business activity. The tax for sole proprietorship, company participant determination, the corporation and the tax consequences for the owners of the business activity is reviewed in class. The tax effects of Acquisitions, generational and converting operations are also reviewed.
Knowledge The candidate should have:
- knowledge of tax rules relating to employment and companies
- knowledge of the transactions and events concerning ownership and equity that may involve taxation
- knowledge of the tax effects of discontinuation of operations and liquidation of a company
- knowledge of the main rules about income and wealth tax for individuals
- knowledge of basic tax administrative law and tax payment
- superior knowledge of tax planning and ethical reflections, including the rules concerning tax waiver
Skills The candidate should have:
- the ability to determine what is taxable income, deductible expenses and make proper scheduling of records for calculation of ordinary income in business
- the ability to calculate tax, income tax payable and deferred tax for corporations

The candidate should:
- be able to use legal methods in the treatment of tax issues
- be able to update and acquire new knowledge in tax law and other legal areas that are important for accounting and auditing work
- be able to convey key subject matter through relevant forms of expression
- be able to exchange views and experiences with other professionals and help develop good practice
- be able to reflect on ethical issues within the topic
- be able to see the topic in a broader context in a societal perspective

Compulsory
Lectures, group work and individual assignments.
The study programme is evaluated annually by students by way of course evaluation studies (mid-term evaluation and final evaluation). These evaluations are included in the university's quality assurance system.
