Bachelor's Thesis

SA203S

The students write a bachelor assignment based on empirical data from the field of social work. The project period lasts for 8 weeks, and during this period the students will conduct an empirical study and present their results in a written assignment.

The work will be carried out in groups of 2-3 students. On special occasions (for health or social reasons), the students may apply for exemption from the requirement of group work. Students must write an application, stating the reasons and enclose relevant documentation for the exemption. Applications are to be sent by mail to the course responsible by the end of January the same semester. Before the project period, there will be a minimum of 2 lectures of 3 hours in which students are introduced to the work to be done during the project period. Each group receives up to 4 hours of supervision. Topic and issues for the assignment are worked out in cooperation with the course responsible and supervisor, and must be relevant to social work. The assignment must not exceed 35 pages of text. References and appendix are additional. If a student is writing alone, the assignment must not exceed 25 pages.

In order to take this course, the student must have passed exams from the first and second year of Bachelor of Social Work, and have passed practice

  • To identify the various theories and methods within the theme

  • To apply scientific and theoretical knowledge and relevant results from research and development of theoretical and practical issues
  • To acquire updated knowledge

General competence

  • To convey the key subject matter as the theories, issues, discussions and solutions in both writing and orally
  • To exchange views and experiences with others with backgrounds in the field, and thereby contribute to the development of good practice.

Lectures, group work and tutored assignment work.
The study programme is evaluated annually by students by way of course evaluation studies (mid-term evaluation and final evaluation). These evaluations are included in the university¿s quality assurance system.

Exams can be answered in Norwegian, Swedish, Danish or English.
