Bachelor´s Thesis

SMI2003
This course is an individual specialization within a relevant topic, and it will result in a 20-page bachelor's thesis. The student is to choose a topic and then plan and independently write a thesis on that topic. The theme of the assignment must be approved by the supervisor(s). The thesis will provide theoretical insight and be a practical exercise in line with scientific, research methodological and research ethical requirements.
Admission requirements: Students must have completed Lule Saami 1 and Lule saami 2
Successfully completed/passed Lule Saami 1 (1LU) and Lule Saami 2 (LU2).

Knowledge

The student will

  • have an understanding of the formal requirements for producing academic texts
  • have broad knowledge of a language or literary topic that they have chosen themselves

Skills

The student will

  • be able to analyze relevant academic literature and draw their own conclusions
  • be able to communicate relevant information, theories, ideas, questions and solutions about a given topic

General competence

The student will

  • be able to work independently toward producing a completed academic text
  • be able to evaluate an academic topic with an independent and critical eye
  • be able to use Lule Saami successfully and with confidence in an academic context
No costs beyond semester registration fees. Students must cover the costs associated with literature/books, as well as travel and lodging in connection with study-gatherings.
Obligatory

The course will to a large extent consist of independent work on the bachelor's thesis in addition to some joint lectures, group work and meetings between the student and the supervisor(s).

The student will, in consultation with the supervisor(s), set a timetable for the work. Deadlines will be set for a preliminary outline, for preparation of the reading list, for completing various parts of the thesis and for the completion of the bachelor's thesis.

The study program is evaluated annually by the students through subject surveys. Evaluation is part of the university's quality assurance system.

This course has a composite assessment (SV) that consists of:

  • Required work (AK) - up to 3 mandatory assignments. These are evaluated as pass/fail. They count for 0/100 of the total grade for the course.
  • Bachelor's Thesis (OP) - is assessed on the basis of letter grades A-F. A is the best grade and F is a failing grade. It counts for 100/100 of the course grade.
  • Both AK and HJ must be passed for the entire course to be considered passed.

Overlap refers to a similarity between courses with the same content. Therefore, you will receive the following reduction in credits if you have taken the courses listed below:
