Level up your English language skills through conversations with native speakers, innovative writing exercises, games, grammar workshops, debates, English-language media, and more!
This semester class is designed to provide extra practice and support in English for international students at Nord University. We will focus on both oral and written strategies, with an emphasis on the language skills that are necessary to perform well in one’s course of study.
The course is compulsory in the package Experience English Language and Literature. The course can also be taken separately by international students at Nord.
General study competence.
Knowledge:
The student
- has knowledge about cross-cultural communication in English
- has knowledge of English as a language used widely in academic life
- has knowledge of basic grammar and vocabulary in English, and how to use these in academic essay writing
Skills:
The student
- can use spoken English to discuss relevant topics
- can use written English to write essays, responses, and communicate in other forms
- can read and comprehend a variety of texts in English from various sources and for various purposes
General competence:
The student
- can express themselves fluidly in spoken and written English
- can use English to engage more fully in student life and their other academic studies
No costs except semester fee.
The course is compulsory in the semester package Experience English Language and Literature: Autumn Package. The course can also be taken as a separate course by international exchange students.
Classes on speaking, listening, writing, and reading comprehension. Required course materials will be made available on Canvas. Participation is not compulsory, although students must deliver one oral presentation to a passing standard in order to be eligible for the examination.
The study program is evaluated annually by the students through course evaluations and study program evaluation. These evaluations are included as part of the university's quality assurance system.
Compound assessment (SV) , grading scale A-F
Compulsory attendance (OD): 80%, approved / not approved.
Assessment Tasks (AK): Individual work - quizzes, assignments and oral presentations. Approved/Not approved. Counts for 0 % of the grade.
Written school exam (SK): 4 hours. Grading rule: A-F, 50% of grade.
Oral exam (MU): 20 minutes. Grading rule: A-F, 50% of grade.
