Modern Saami Literature

SP233L
This course provides a good overview of modern Saami literature with an emphasis on Lule Saami literature. Central authors will be discussed. This course focuses on Saami-language poetry, but also translated literature including Norwegian and Swedish literature written by Saami writers. Students will also be introduced to different types of literary theories and methods.
Successfully completed/passed Lule Saami 1 (1LU) and Lule Saami 2 (LU2).

KNOWLEDGE 

The student will

  • have an understanding of recent Saami poetry
  • have an understanding of the analysis of literary texts 
  • be familiar with different literary theories and literary methods

SKILLS 

The student will  

  • be able to present, present, discuss and analyze different types of literary texts
  • be able to communicate an understanding of more recent Saami literature and literary history 

GENERAL COMPETENCE 

The student will

  • be able to communicate relevant subject matter and information about Saami literature
  • develop and strengthen one's own competence with respect to Saami literature

No tuition fees. Costs for semester registration and course literature apply.

Students should expect costs to incur in relation to sessions at Drag or elsewhere.

Obligatory

Teaching will take place at several gatherings. The language of teaching and communication will, to the greatest extent possible, be Lule Saami.

Teaching will consist of a combination of different learning activities, including lectures, group wok and independent work. Active participation on the part of the students is expected. Students are expected to be present at lectures and to actively contribute to discussions.

Assignments are submitted via Canvas, which is the university's learning portal.

The study program is evaluated annually by the students through subject surveys. Evaluation is part of the university's quality assurance system.

The course has a composite assessment (SV) consisting of:

  • Work Requirements (AK) - up to 3 work requirements, written / oral. Evaluated to pass / fail. Counts 0/100 of the grade
  • Home Exam (HJ) - 5 days. Evaluated based on letter grades A-F, where A is best and F is not passed. It counts 100/100 of the grade in the subject.
  • SV - both AK and HJ must be approved / passed to have the course as a whole completed.
