Topic SPU325 Public health with a focus on children and adolescents is a theory topic. The purpose of the course is to provide the student with insight and understanding of the complexity and challenges the target group has in everyday life, as well as increasing the ability to interact with other professional groups.
Topic SPU325 Public health with a focus on children and adolescents is a theory topic. The purpose of the course is to provide the student with insight and understanding of the complexity and challenges the target group has in everyday life, as well as increasing the ability to interact with other professional groups. The topic is carried out as group-based project work for 4 weeks. The project work is based on the mental and physical health of children and adolescents in a public health perspective, where the nurse's preventive and health promotion functions are central. The project period begins with lectures in a relevant theme in the first part of the period and ends with the completion of the project.
Exams from the 1st and 2nd year of study must have been passed in order to take the final examination.
After having completed this topic it is expected that the student:
Knowledge:
- Knows about overall goals and priorities in health and care policy
- Knows about other professional groups with the health and social fields
- Knows about psychosocial risk factors and health related risk behaviour among vulnerable groups of children, young people and their families
- Knows about the significance of social differences as viewed from a public health perspective
- Knows about public health, preventive and health promoting factors for the physical health of children and young people
Skills:
- Can interact interprofessionally in order to create a coordinated, comprehensive and coherent service offer
- Can carry out project work
General competency:
- Can contribute to new ideas and innovation
- Can visualize current social health challenges related to the target group of children and young people

Required theory topics
Group-based project work, lectures, supervision and group work.
Evaluation using mid-term and final surveys. Students are also encouraged to participate in the central quality surveys.
All compulsory participation in the course must have been approved in order to take the examination.
Assessment: Written group report.
Duration: 4 weeks.
Grading scale: Pass / Fail.
